The 2021 Aventon E-Bike Lineup & Our Take On Each Model

Aventon Bikes was founded in 2012 by two friends, a delivery van, and a one-room warehouse office. In a true display of American spirit and drive, the company now has several hundred employees across the USA and China and makes cheerful, sturdy e-Bikes that are also easy on the wallet.

With 6 models for 2021, across four different types of riding, there really is a bike for anyone and everyone. Another important thing about Aventon is that all their bikes are equipped with both a hand throttle and a pedal-assist motor. This means that if you want to get a workout, dial down the assist and pedal to your heart’s content. Want to cruise? Use the hand throttle to take over, up to speeds of 20 MPH.

The Pace 350 Step-Through is an entry-level commuter e-Bike that features a strong 500W peak power motor that is located on the rear wheel hub, hidden behind the 7-speed gears. The motor will provide 350W continuous power, and only peaks during extreme demand, for example climbing a steep hill. With the bike being made out of aluminum alloy, it is light enough that peak power draw should rarely occur. The Pace 350 tops out at 20 MPH on electric assist.

With a 420Wh lithium-ion battery, the estimated range, depending on conditions, is 25 to 40 miles per charge, based on usage and amount of pedal assist. The Pace 350 also features an easy-to-read backlit LCD display, which shows battery level, speed, what level of power assist you are using, and how many miles the bike has travelled overall.

The Aventon Pace 350 Step-Through has a price tag of $1,199 and is available in Amethyst Purple or Chalk White.

Aventon Pace 500 Step-Through Commuter

2021 Aventon Pace 500 Step-Through Commuter Key Specifications

  • Price: $1,499 USD / $1,799 CAD
  • Buy: 2021 Aventon Pace 500 Step-Through
  • Motor: 750W (Peak), 48V Brushless Rear Hub Motor 500W (Sustained)
  • Est. Range: 40 mi / 64 km
  • Top Speed: 28 mph / 45 kph
  • Pedal Sensor: Cadence sensor / 5 level PAS
  • Battery: Removable Lithium-ion 48V, 11.6Ah (556.8Wh) with Samsung Cells
  • Transmission: Shimano Altus 11-32 Cassette, 8 Speed

Using effectively the same frame as the Pace 350 Step-Through, the Pace 500 Step-Through brings with it a more powerful motor, a larger battery, and a higher pedal assist top speed. The rear-hub motor on this model is a 750W peak, 500W continuous version, powered by a 556Wh lithium-ion battery. While using the hand throttle, the bike is limited to a top speed of 20 MPH. With pedal assist in mode 5 (highest), the bike will top out at 28 MPH.

The Pace 500 Step-Through also gains an extra gear on the rear shifter, with an 8-speed fitted. As the name of both Pace Step-Through models suggests, the main aim of this e-bike is to be a commuter bike, able to dodge a lot of traffic due to it not surpassing 750W, meaning it can legally use bike lanes, even on throttle.

The Aventon Pace 500 Step-Through has a price tag of $1,499 and is available in Celeste Light Blue and Chalk White.

Aventon Pace 500 EBike

2021 Aventon Pace 500 Key Specifications

  • Price: $1,499 USD / $1,799 CAD
  • Buy: 2021 Aventon Pace 500
  • Motor: 750W (Peak), 48V Brushless Rear Hub Motor 500W (Sustained)
  • Est. Range: 40 mi / 64 km
  • Top Speed: 28 mph / 45 kph

  • Battery: Removable Lithium-ion 48V, 11.6Ah (556.8Wh) with Samsung Cells
  • Transmission: Shimano Altus 11-32 Cassette, 8 Speed

The Pace 500 EBike is the non-commuter variant of the Pace 500 Step-Through. It features the same 500W continuous, 750W peak hub motor, 556Wh battery, and 8-speed shifter. It also shares the same top speeds of 20 MPH on throttle, 28 MPH on pedal assist.

This bike is also certified as a Class III electronic bicycle. This is both a good thing (for 49 states) and a bad thing (for California). Class III ebikes are allowed within the full “curb-to-curb” infrastructure of a roadway, meaning bike lanes and traffic lanes, but are not allowed on bike paths unless the motor is completely off.

In California, all ebikes must be pedal-assist only in their Class III specification, otherwise, they are not allowed on the road.

The Pace 500 EBike has a price tag of $1,499 and only comes in Deep Black.

Aventon Sinch Foldable EBike

2021 Aventon Sinch Foldable EBike Key Specifications

  • Price: $1,599 USD / $1,929 CAD
  • Buy: 2021 Aventon Sinch Foldable EBike
  • Motor: 750W (peak) 500W (sustained) 48V Brushless Motor

  • Battery: Removable Lithium-ion 48V, 14Ah (672 Wh) with Samsung Cells
  • Transmission: Shimano Acera, 7 Speed

The Sinch Foldable EBike is one of the more interesting models that Aventon produces. Powered by a 500W continuous, 750W peak power electric hub motor, the Sinch is designed to be an all-terrain bike that can do some engineering origami to fit in the trunk of the standard family sedan. Like all of Aventon’s other models, it has both a hand throttle and pedal assist, and features a 7-speed shifter on the rear hub as well.

However, due to being a compact bike, it will only achieve 20 MPH on assist or throttle. The 4-inch fat tires can take on everything from a muddy forest path to the quiet suburban streets, and all terrains in between. With a 672Wh lithium-ion battery, the bike has approximately 40 to 45 miles of power, depending on what assist mode is used. As well, being designed as an all-terrain, it has a front suspension that features 45mm of travel.

The Sinch Foldable EBike has a price tag of $1,599 and is available only in Crest White or Slick Black.

Aventon Level Step-Through Commuter

2021 Aventon Level Step-Through Key Specifications

  • Price: $1,699 USD / $2,049 CAD
  • Buy: 2021 Aventon Level Step-Through
  • Motor: 750W (Peak) 500W (Sustained), 48V Brushless Rear Hub Motor
  • Est. Range: 40 mi / 64 km
  • Top Speed: 28 mph / 45 kph

  • Battery: Removable Internal Lithium-ion 48V, 14Ah (672Wh) with Samsung Cells
  • Transmission: Shimano Acera Cassette, 12-32T, 8 Speed

The Level Step-Through Commuter is what Aventon believes is the perfect urban e-Bike. Building upon the Pace 500’s proven 500W continuous, 750W peak rear wheel hub motor, the Level Step-Through adds the amenities to make this model the optimal commuter. A package rack/saddlebags frame is added, as well as mudguards. An 8-speed rear shifter of the Shimano Acera line, used on heavy-duty road bikes, completes the package of a thoroughly sturdy e-bike.

The biggest difference with the Level Step-Through compared to the other models is the front suspension, which has a full 75mm of travel, rivalling the travel of some scooters and mopeds. It comes with a 672Wh lithium-ion battery, and the bike is rated as Class III, as it can hit up to 28 MPH on pedal assist with a range of 40+ miles.

The Level Step-Through Commuter has a price tag of $1,699 and is available in Earth Grey or Rose Gold.

Aventon Level Commuter

2021 Aventon Level Commuter Key Specifications

  • Price: $1,699 USD / $2,049 CAD
  • Buy: 2021 Aventon Level Commuter
  • Motor: 750W (Peak) 500W (Sustained), 48V Brushless Rear Hub Motor
  • Est. Range: 40 mi / 64 km
  • Top Speed: 28 mph / 45 kph
  • Pedal Sensor: Cadence Sensor / Speed Sensor / 5 level PAS
  • Battery: Removable Internal Lithium-ion 48V, 14Ah (672Wh) with Samsung Cells
  • Transmission: Shimano Acera Cassette, 12-32T, 8 Speed

The Level Commuter is a bit of an engineering example of using non-traditional structures to make a strong, yet light, frame. Instead of a simple tube, the top tube is more of an elliptical tube. This shape gives the bike more vertical rigidity, while the downtube where the battery is held is horizontally thick.

What results is an e-bike that can handle very rough or poorly maintained roads without fear of the frame twisting or passing unpleasant knocks through to the rider.

The Level Commuter retains all the same specifications and classifications of the Level Step-Through. The Level Commuter has a price tag of $1,699 and is available only in Stone Grey.
