The 2020 Rocket 3 GT and Rocket 3 R both share the same engine, a 2,458cc inline triple that produces 165 HP and 163 lbs-ft of torque. Both motorcycles also both use the same 6-speed transmission that is hydraulically assisted due to the massive torque and power the engine outputs.

The major differences between the R and the GT are in riding position and general bike setup.

The GT is the much more touring friendly motorcycle, with handlebars that are wide and pulled back, forwards mounted pegs and foot controls, and a touring windshield to deflect air up and over the shoulders of the rider. It is also set to have a slightly more invasive ABS and stability control, as the GT is the bike for those wanting worry free long distance rides.

The R, on the other hand, is the power cruiser. It has wide handlebars but they are not pulled back nearly as much, mid mount pegs and foot controls, and only a small front cowling to break through the air. It is much more aggressive, with the ABS only kicking in if it detects imminent loss of control, and the stability control allows much more lean before starting to interfere.

The high specification aluminum frame construction, with forward-facing air intake and premium cast and forged components is more than 15% lighter than the previous production Rocket.

Contributing to the Rocket 3 R and GT’s superior riding comfort and exceptional handling characteristics are fully adjustable Showa monoshock RSU with piggyback reservoir, and 47 mm USD Showa cartridge front forks which are adjustable for both compression and rebound

Lightweight, compact, beautifully sculpted Brembo Stylema calipers are designed to deliver a more immediate braking response. The increased airflow around the brake pads help the calipers cool quicker for a more consistent performance.

The Rocket 3 lineup is packed with ride-enhancing technology including sophisticated personalizable full-color TFT instruments, optimized cornering ABS & traction control, four riding modes, all-LED lighting, hill-hold control, cruise control, keyless ignition and optional Triumph Shift Assist.

For excellent visibility, both Rocket 3 models feature a distinctive full-LED twin headlight (including Daytime Running Lights where market legislation permits), a beautiful LED tail light, LED indicators and LED license plate light for maximum durability and power efficiency.

Developed especially for this bike, imposing Avon Cobra Chrome tires – the rear tire is 9.45-inches (240 mm) wide – add to the Rocket 3’s muscular presence with stunning detailing, with a new tread pattern for exceptional grip and incredible longevity.

Both of the Rocket 3’s sculpted rider and pillion saddle setups maintain the clean and flowing line across the bike, and deliver maximum comfort and an accessible low seat height. Each model features a dedicated setup, with the Rocket 3 GT benefiting from the addition of a brushed aluminum pillion backrest.

The beautifully engineered cast aluminum single-sided swingarm, with offset monoshock suspension and aluminum rear license plate hanger, add to the clean, uncluttered styling of the compact minimal rear end.

The new Rocket 3’s distinctive three-header exhaust run is innovatively engineered for the perfect exhaust routing, flowing from the header into the combined cat box, then on to the beautiful triple-exit silencer for the perfect deep, growling triple soundtrack.
