In terms of design, the little SR 50 Motard takes inspiration directly from its bigger brothers, borrowing styling elements directly from the likes of Aprilia’s flagship RSV4 and Tuono models, with a few features taken from the supermoto-inspired Dorsoduro 900. Recessed headlighs, a sharp and aggressive beak, and sporty handlebars elevate the SR 50 Motard from the world of underpowered mopeds into the realms of sports-focused scooters.
There’s no escaping the fact that the Aprilia SR 50 Motard is only equipped with a small engine. However, size doesn’t matter—it’s what you do with it. The 49.9cc single-cylinder engine’s current performance figures are a secret, but we know they’re an improvement on the previous generation’s 4.55 horsepower and 2.9 lb-ft peak torque figures! Still, it’ enough to propel the little scooter to a respectable (limited) top speed of 40 mph.
Thanks to CVT twist and go technology, it’s easy to ride. Acceleration is fast and to the point, and with the front disc brake and rear drum assembly, and the new Bosch 9.1 MP ABS system, stopping is easier than ever. It’s easy to operate, fun to ride, and can stop in a hurry. What’s not to like?
