Suzuki updates for 2017 include more power and less weight on its 2017 GSX-R1000, an added GSX-R125 model and the GSR750 replaced with the GSX-750.

The 2017 models have been unveiled at the INTERMOT show in Cologne.

The seventh-generation GSX-R1000 has a completely new Euro 4-compliant engine with 148.6kW (199.27hp) and 117.5Nm of torque,all-LED lighting, lean-angle sensitive traction control, three riding modes, a quickshifter, electronic steering damper, one-button starter, upgraded Showa suspension and weighs 3kg less at 202kg wet.

Suzuki claims it is the most powerful they have built.

The engine is not only more powerful and cleaner running but is also more compact, being 6.6mm narrower and 22.2mm shorter, yet the bike is 20mm longer with a 1425mm wheelbase.

Engine compression is higher at 13.2:1 from 12.9:1 with a longer bore and shorter stroke (76 x 55.1mm from 74.5 x 57.3mm). It now redlines at 14,500rpm instead of 13,500.

A limited-edition GSX-R1000R version will come with upgraded suspension and cornering ABS.

The light end of the market is growing with the addition of the Suzuki GSX-R125.

The company says it has the best power-to-weight ratio, torque-to-weight ratio and acceleration and fuel economy in its class, but all tech specs are not yet released.

It is powered by a 124.4cc liquid-cooled DOHC four-valve single cylinder engine and features twin petal front discs, a low 785mm seat, keyless ignition, LCD dash and LED headlight.

Like the GSX-S1000, it’s a naked version of the faired sports bike with a retuned, Euro 4 compliant engine.

Features include ABS, 16-litre tank, three-mode traction control, LCD instrument cluster, one-button start, low-RPM assist to prevent stalling and LED rear light and indicators.

It has 41mm gold-anodised KYB upside forks adjustable for preload and a seven-way adjustable rear shock.

Brakes are four-pot radial Nissin front callipers with 310mm floating discs.

2017 V-Strom 650

The popular 2017 Suzuki V-Strom 650 and V-Strom 650XT looks more like their bigger brother, the V-Strom 1000.

They also get the one-touch easy-start from the SV650 traction control, a 2kW power boost from 52kW, a 2.4Nm torque boost to 62Nm, a USB power socket and the engine is now Euro 4 complaint thanks to an updated fuel injection system.

Novices will appreciate the addition of Low RPM Assist which prevents stalling by automatically increasing revs slightly as the clutch is released.

They will come in red, yellow or black.
